Be Part Of The Team
Wilkinson’s are a company that believes in being the best, and are proud holders as of the 2022 award for Best Approved Inspector in the UK.
We have been growing and innovating since 2009 and excel at what we do because our people excel. If you share our positive, can-do attitude, our commitment to quality and our dedication to finding solutions rather than problems, you’ll fit right in.
As a small family business you’ll find that you are a part of a family not a corporate machine. There is no unnecessary bureaucracy and everyone mucks in – you’ll even find the MD getting his boots muddy or making the tea.
We absolutely want to be the best and you have a personal role in making that happen.
Current Vacancies
Senior Building Control Surveyor (RH/TN postcode area)
The role will involve assessment of plans / checking of Building Control applications, and undertaking inspections of various Building Projects filing inspection reports using the latest digital technology. You must have experience of undertaking these roles for either LABC, NHBC or an Approved Inspector in the UK.
The role is home based and requires travel by car/motorcycle to building sites within East Sussex and Kent within a 40 mile radius of your home.
You will need to attend the West Malling office 1 day per week, (though you are welcome to attend more often) and will be working alongside a graduate to help mentor them to full qualification. Clients range from small domestic, to large commercial and even Public Sector projects offering a really interesting and rewarding mix where every day is different. NB excludes High Rise buildings.
We are able to be highly flexible and offer full or part time/variable hours contracts for those looking to semi retire from LABC or return to work due to increasing costs. This means that we can accommodate a choice of working patterns and hours – for example the hours could be worked Wednesday to Friday or after 10am to fit around childcare or other responsibilities. If neither of these options fits then please contact us as we may still be able to accommodate alternative patterns
Salary band is currently £38K – £45K pro rata based on qualifications and experience.
Pro-rata means in proportion to – so if you are appointed on an annual salary of £40K and choose to work 3 days a week you would earn 3/5ths of £40K. e.g. £24K (£2K per month for a 3 day week).
You will need hold a relevant qualification and have at least 2 years’ experience of working with Building Regulations for a BCB in the UK.
We are a small family business that has been established for over 10 years and has won multiple awards for our service and employment practices.
Perhaps you are looking to cut down your current hours, or are just fed up with the bureaucracy of Local Authority Building Control? Maybe you are recently qualified and want to widen your experience from dealing with domestic extensions into more commercial projects? Alternatively, you may be looking to step back into work following furlough or as the children are growing up? If any of these apply this could be the ideal role for you.
Important – whilst we are an equal opportunity employer and positively encourage applications from under-represented groups the ability to climb ladders, and drive your own vehicle is essential to this post. Additionally the role requires basic IT skills such as the ability to use an iPad to complete and submit inspection reports. We are ideally looking to recruit someone living or looking to relocate to TW or RH postcodes.
We are a highly regarded and flexible family run business that believes in doing the job properly with minimal bureaucracy, you will be able to concentrate on doing the job you enjoy with support when you need it.
Many of our staff have been with us for over 10 years now and unlike some organisations the boss isnt afraid of making the tea or getting his boots muddy.

Thinking of joining us?
Here’s what our staff say
“When I was made redundant from LABC, I thought my career was over and it hit my confidence. However Wilkinson’s had faith in my ability and offered me a job, giving me new motivation to get up each morning. The attitude, culture and support shown to staff and their families make it one of the best places I have ever worked, I really feel a valued member of a team”
“WCCL is a real ‘family’ business with the feeling that you are an extension of the family; always supportive and willing to help with ongoing progression to achieve your full potential”
WCCL are an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications regardless of age, race, religion, sex, disability etc
